Growth of Social and Economic Development Projects |
| In recent years, local and
national Bahá'í communities have launched an increasing number of small-scale
development projects. Such projects cover a wide range of activities, from agricultural
training to health care, as shown in the chart below. As of 1992, Bahá'í communities
operated at least 1,344 projects of all types, up substantially from 129 in 1979, when
detailed records were first kept. The number of projects dropped slightly between 1987 and
1988, in part because prototype literacy projects in India were terminated at the end of
